Killer Sites

http://www.killersites.com/

Wide range of introductory to intermediate articles on web design, free stock photos, forums etc. Very comprehensive site. The author's work is used by a number of colleges and universities in America .

The tutorials used here would suit a year 8/9 project, and some of the more advanced tutorials on javascript programming would suit the SDD course.

How to Build Websites

http://www.how-to-build-websites.com/

LEARN WEB DESIGN EASILY

Learn WEB DESIGN by hand coding HTML ; no previous experience is required! Only seven simple tutorials and a total beginner will be hand coding HTML pages quickly. Seven tutorials…because it's about html coding, no fancy web-creation programs needed.

By the same author as Killer Werbsites, this site provides a crash course in HTML for people with no previous experience. They cover basic webpage design, links, tables etc., then move on to CSS and a bit of Javascript. The first three tutorials would make an excellent introduction to webpage design.

Entheos web

http://www.entheosweb.com/website_design/default.asp

Good range of tutorials for Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Plus articles on web design and graphics. Very well laid out and easy to follow tutorials. I have worked through some of these tutorials, and they produce professional looking webpages very quickly. You need Fireworks to complete most of the tutorials, which would limit its usefulness in some schools.

Pegaweb

http://www.pegaweb.com/

This is probably my pick of the websites listed here. It works mainly with photoshop, which might limit its usefullness in some schools, but the content is invaluable. The titlebar for this page was designed using a tutorial from this website.

About the Author

This site " Pegaweb Web Design & Photoshop Tutorials" was launched as a hobby site on 13th March 2002. The site is run by me (Daniel Piechnick), a professional web designer from Adelaide , South Australia . All the material on this site is original, and is based on my experience as a web designer.

Since that time (and with much work :), This site has grown substantially, and now receives thousands of visitors every day. According to the Alexa Directory, Pegaweb is now one of the highest ranking web graphics tutorials sites on the net. This site was recently featured in the UK magazine "WebDesigner."

Whether you're a budding web entrepreneur, or just someone trying to make a reasonable website, I hope this site proves to be a valuable resource for you

This site is put together by a team of about fifty people. It would be suitable for more advanced students, as well as students in senior classes. It is a huge web design site; divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced. Webmonkey is one of the definitive webdesign resources on the web. In particular there are good articles and tutorials on multimedia elements in webpages.
